Just like that, it’s Monday and we are entering into the 53rd day of lockdown! How crazy is that?!

COVID-19 has taught me a lot, and has made me grateful for many things too!

I am grateful for my health, I am grateful for my family, I am grateful to be able to exercise at home and go for walks in the morning, I am grateful to be able to go to the shops and I am grateful to be able to cook delicious meals at home (which in my biased opinion are of restaurant quality 😉 ), and sometimes share these recipes with you!

Most importantly, I am grateful for technology – and how it has allowed me to stay in touch with my patients virtually and move my ‘in-person’ practice completely online. HOW COOL IS THAT?!

Just a couple of months ago, no one could have predicted the extent of the COVID-19s effect on society. The COVID-19 pandemic brought TELEMEDICINE into a new light! It is a phenomenon that us South Africans aren’t too familiar with, but quite popular overseas.

Telemedicine is bridging the gap between people, healthcare professionals and health systems, enabling everyone to stay at home and communicate with their healthcare professional, like a dietitian, through virtual channels. Not only is this helping to reduce the spread of the virus, but it’s actually helping individuals far and wide reach different healthcare professionals.

There is good logic for remote care, besides for infection control. People are busy, and we get that! With all the demands of work, home, kids, travel (pre and post COVID-19) we don’t really have much time to fit anything else into the day. An online consultation can help individuals to lose weight, incorporate health recipes into their diet and overall adopt healthier behaviours whatever their health goals may be. What is great is that it is a service available to those that live in another city and cannot come in for a physical consult. With online consultations, your appointment can take place anywhere you like, all you need is internet access or a working phone. It allows you to receive the same expert nutrition advice, support and accountability to achieve your health or nutrition goals, wherever it is convenient for you. You don’t have to worry about traffic, parking or sitting in waiting rooms.

So, the good news is that whilst we are open for face-to-face consultations, we are still continuing to offer virtual consultations too! All hygiene COVID-19 regulations have been implemented, and we kindly ask that all patients coming in for a face to face consult wear an appropriate mask.

Have a great week everyone!
